RAGBRAI 2014 is less than a week away, and Team BOB is getting very excited! We know that we’ll make a lot of great memories and experience lots of new things, but we are most excited to tell people about Build Our Ballpark.
I can’t think of a better way to raise awareness for Build Our Ballpark than by traveling across its very own state in a way that promotes health and teamwork, just like the organization does.
It’s even better that this year’s route crosses the northern part of Iowa – the part of the state where the Hellman family comes from and where my father began his business and this wonderful nonprofit.
This year, Team BOB will stay with host families in each of the overnight towns. Part of the RAGBRAI experience is getting to know the people of Iowa – their warmth and generous hospitality. We’ll set up tents in the host families’ yards, use their facilities for cleaning up, and even gather around their dinner tables. This, my friends, is experiencing Iowa in the best way possible.
We have our fingers crossed for cool, sunny days with a light breeze at our backs to push us along. Rain-free, low-humidity nights would be great, too, for our beauty rest on our ever-so-soft air mattresses. And, we hope to avoid Iowa’s state “bird” – the mosquito!
I so appreciate the support you give to Team BOB and to Build Our Ballpark. It would be an honor to see those donations of encouragement start trickling in today! Just click on the “Make a Donation” tab of this website for info on how to donate online or by mail.
I plan to update you once from the road, and again when we’ve finished. Keep an eye out for our social media posts as well – Build Our Ballpark is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
Thanks again for all you do – Build Our Ballpark is celebrating its 6th year because of your support and generosity!
